The 2025 Chicago Cubs Are SPECIAL

It's been a decade since we truly had a must-watch team with must-watch players. And that's what we have this year. A team that is scoring runs at a record pace and doing it while having a ton of fun. They have the best player in the MLB and arguably the best pure hitter the Cubs have had since the turn of the century.
It's a hard thing to explain but when a homerun is hit or a double is laced to the ivy, my phone blows up from 10+ people and my twitter feed is completely full of Cubs talk. It's a noticeable buzz. And that's what happens when a team goes out and does what they've done during the first full month of baseball against some of the toughest competition.
Where They Rank (MLB)
Homeruns: 3rd
RBIs: 1st
Hits: 1st
Walks: 2nd
Stolen Bases: 1st
Batting Avg.: 1st
OBP: 1st
Run differential: 1st
They sit at 16-10 and have done all of this offensively while having the hardest strength of schedule in the MLB playing 23 of 26 games against teams with a winning record.
The offense is explosive. In 2024, thru April, they scored 135 runs. Compare that to 2025, with 5 games left to play, they've scored 163 runs. That's the fun part. The concern is their pitching and specifically the relief pitching. They'll need to address this because they can't rely on the offense to continue to score 6+ runs per game.

Early Season To-Dos:
Extend Kyle Tucker
This is the biggest no brainer of all time. He's the best baseball player to wear a Cubs jersey since Sosa? He's prime KB combined with 2005 Derrek Lee. He's a bonafide superstar and a guy you surround with prospects for the next 7 years. I think you offer him $475 for 10 years and call it a day. All other trades are dependent on locking him down so you can dish out your young minor league outfielders.
Replace Justin Steele
They need to address the front-end of the bullpen ASAP. We can't confidently go into a playoff series with the top 3 pitchers being Shota Imanaga, J-Mo, and Matthew Boyd. That's just not going to cut it. After they extend Kyle Tucker I would immediately start shopping Owen Caissie for Sandy Alcantara. They can't settle for dumpster diving here since this needs to be a Justin Steele replacement. Could they get Dylan Cease from a Padres team that will still be in contention? Maybe?
Relief Pitching
I think this is a combination of a depth guy and a back-end of the bullpen guy. I really like Porter Hodge and Ryan Pressly but I think you need one more guy for 7th inning/support. I'd go out and trade for Ryan Helsley from the Cardinals, Kenley Jansen from the Angels, or Kyle Finnegan from the Nationals.
Early Season Highlights:
Miguel Amaya game tying Homerun vs the Dodgers in the 9th with 2 outs.
Kyle Tucker go ahead homerun in the bottom of the 8th after a rollercoaster top of the 8th where the Cubs bullpen gave up 10 runs
Ian Happ incredible diving catch against the Padres in early April
Ian Happ walkoff single with PCA running onto the field before Brujan even crosses the plate
The Carson Kelly game (He's batting .342)
If you're not locked into this team, I suggest getting to Wrigley Field or buying Marquee ASAP. It's worth every penny. It's 2010 Jersey Shore, 2001 Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and 2005 American Idol wrapped up into one. Appointment television at it's finest. Wrigley Field will be rocking all Summer long and I seriously suggest you clear your schedule for the month of October.
